If you enjoy pitching washers, welcome to the team! Our washer tournaments are legendary. It’s not uncommon to see dozens of teams competing in our double elimination competitions. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or picking up washers for the first time, you’ll find plenty of friendly competition here at Star Ranch.
What is Washers?
Washers is a classic outdoor toss game popular throughout Texas and the South. Players take turns throwing metal washers at a target box or cup, aiming to land them in or near the hole for points. It’s simple to learn, highly addictive, and perfect for a relaxed afternoon of friendly competition.

How to Play
Pick a Field
Choose one of our 4 washer fields — each has sand-filled boxes with centered cups
Take Your Position
Stand next to one box and aim for the opposite box’s cup
Toss Your Washers
Each player throws 3 washers per round, alternating throws with your opponent
Score Points
In the cup = 5 points, lapping the rim = 3 points, closest = 1 point each
Scoring Breakdown
- Cupper (5 points) — Your washer lands inside the center cup
- Lapper (3 points) — Your washer lands on and laps over the cup rim
- Closest (1 point each) — Each of your like-colored washers closest to the cup
- Off the Box (0 points) — Washer lands outside the box entirely
- Cancellation scoring — Only the difference in points counts each round
