Margie Holland Hall
August 21, 1934 – April 16, 2016
Sahnoan since 1964
For several decades Star Ranch had an unofficial hostess. Hers was the first face you saw when you arrived at Star Ranch and the last face you saw upon leaving, along with a hug and an invitation to come again soon and to be careful.
Her name was Margie Holland Hall and she became a Sahnoan in 1964.
Margie was a gracious lady and the ultimate hostess. Members and visitors remembered her because she made everyone feel welcome and they appreciated her ever-present smile. All Sahnoans who knew Margie claimed her as a best friend – that Rock of Gibraltar friend we knew we could count on.
A Life of Service
Margie served as a Board member, the recording secretary, office volunteer, shopper for the Club, and the general go-to person. When someone went out of town and their pet needed feeding, they called Margie. When a member passed away, Margie adopted the pet left behind. In any situation, her first question was “How can I help?”
She believed that socializing was good for the soul and established a monthly Star Ranch potluck on the second Wednesday of the month that served as a birthday dinner for anyone who celebrated their special day during the month. That event is still on our calendar.
The “H” Monogram
The running joke was that Margie’s surname had to begin with “H” (husbands Perry Holland and Cliff Hall) since the monogram on her towels was “H”, which also stood for Hopeful, Helpful, Humorous, and Here for us all.
The Heart of the Kitchen
As busy as she always was, Margie dedicated more hours in the kitchen than can be counted.
Margie was the person always here when the doors opened – bustling about setting tables for meals, cooking and serving from the kitchen, visiting with everyone who came, and ALWAYS staying for clean-up.
No potluck, especially on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter was complete without Margie’s sweet potatoes and banana nut bread with icing as deep as the bread.
Her Legacy
Her influence in the life of Star Ranch is a legacy of hard work, friendliness, love and acceptance of everyone she met.
Naming the café for Margie was a special tribute to her for her spirit lingers still in “Margie’s Nekkid Lunch Café.”
